In defense of Bela Talbot
The thing about Supernatural that got me hooked in the blink of an eye was that this show has some great characters and a very effective way of presenting them.
Although the show is prominently about Sam and Dean, there is all this court of minor and major characters that have stories on their own and give a sense of reality and consistency to the universe the show is set in.
I’m very new to the Supernatural fandom, I got in just a few months ago and I fell in love with the characters in this show in a way that’s a bit worrying, honestly.
Sam and Dean are just impossible not to love, they’re archetipical but not too stereotyped, and you got to be made of stone not to sympathize with them and feel all the feels about the ginormous amount of crap their life is made of. Seriously.
But the recurring characters in the show are usually pure gold: Cas, Bobby, Jo, Helen, Ruby, Gabriel, Crowley, Garth they could all have a spin off show on their own and make it a great show.
In this scenario of amazing side characters, I realised that there is one that I loved almost immediately and I would pay good money to see back and that’s Bela Talbot.
From what I read around I gathered that when season three aired, the fan reaction to Bela was not the best, and even if I can imagine why, I really don’t understand it.
Here is my attempt at defending Bela and trying to understand her.
(I’m awful at this, so please don’t hate me because this is really long and probably doesn’t get anywhere, but I tried, ok?)
